Make Yourself at Home
Wellspring Calgary staff and volunteers are privileged to welcome you to a place our members often call home. In fact, we hope our centres feel like a second home; a place that is warm, welcoming, comfortable and safe.
“For me, one of the most important things about Wellspring is that it has always operated in non-hospital settings. Those of us living with cancer spend much of our lives as patients, or supporting someone we love as they wait, endure treatment, wait some more, recover, struggle…all the complicated things that go along with being a patient. It is intensely liberating to step out of that medical role to paint, dance, drum, meditate, talk, ride, write, read and watch films together. Wellspring is about living with cancer not only as patients, and not always as patients. It is all about life. People at Wellspring understand that living with disease is all about living in its most intense, most immense aspects. It’s emotional and spiritual. It’s living that craves companionship, laughter, shared tears and the silence of the heart. And I have found these gifts at Wellspring.”

Have a Look Around
Drop by or make an appointment to visit Wellspring and learn about our programs and resources. You will be greeted by a trained volunteer who is available to give you a tour. You can also meet with a Peer Support volunteer who has experienced cancer or has been a primary caregiver and is trained to provide confidential support and practical strategies to help you navigate cancer via Wellspring programs.
If you are living with cancer, or you are a primary caregiver we hope you will choose to become a member. If you do, all you need to do is fill out a form and you are free to sign up for any available Wellspring program. There is no cost for membership or programs and no referral is necessary.
Choose Your Programs
As you review what we offer, you will see that we have a rich assortment of programs and speakers that are methodically and creatively conceived to nurture the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of your cancer experience. These programs are all evidence-informed and created in collaboration with skilled facilitators, knowledgeable healthcare professionals, leading oncology experts and invested advisors.
Wellspring programs fall under four main wellness pillars. They include:
- Core and Educational – for example: Healing Journey, Brain Fog and Returning to Work.
- Expressive Arts – for example: Creative Journaling, Artist Trading Cards, Drumming, Photography and Digital Storytelling.
- Movement and Meditation – for example: Healthy Steps™, Exercise and Educate, Tai Chi, Yoga, Visualization and Relaxation, and Laughter Yoga.
- Caregiver and Self Care – for example: Food and Nutrition, Thursdays with Bob, Finding Sanctuary and Ultimate Road Trip (book discussion).
We also offer a stream of programs just for Young Adults (YA: 18-39) living with cancer. While Young Adults are welcome to take any of our programs, these programs are specifically tailored to their unique challenges and experiences.
Our program selection changes every four months to introduce seasonal variations including outdoor hiking, skiing and horticultural pursuits. Look for a new Wellspring program guide in late December, March and August.
We also invite you to sign up for our Speaker Series, featuring occasional House Concerts and a diverse array of speaker events presented by highly accomplished professionals in the health and medical community. Wellspring’s Speaker Series is free of charge and open to non-members – bring a friend!
Lastly, check out our drop in programs, including such favourites as Men’s Group, Tuesday Tea, and Ukulele and also join the extensive number of external groups that meet at Wellspring Calgary, including Look Good Feel Better, Women’s Interest Group, and many cancer support groups including Blood Cancer Support, Brain Tumor Support and Correctol Cancer Support (to name just a few).
